Russell Simmons Talks Hip-Hop's Cash Kings

Hip-Hop mogul Russell Simmons sat down with Forbes magazine to discuss his reaction to this year's Cash Kings list which includes Jay-Z, Diddy, Lil Wayne and Drake.

Simmons state that Hip-Hop has the ability to make lists like Forbes due to mainstream appeal that it has garnered over the last decade.

“The reason most of the artists are on the list is because they were able to make it mainstream,” Simmons said. “I'm not knocking it because mainstream is what helped put Hip-Hop where it is.”

Simmons also states that it was the artists love for music that helped catapult them into success.

"Jay-Z, he's very talented, he's a great artist and he's a good businessman, and an inspiration to a lot of kids in Brooklyn and around the world," Simmons continued. "'If you ain't drinking Ciroc, then you're drinking piss.' [laughs] All right, that's Puff. Lil Wayne, yeah, I'd expect he'd make a lot of money. He does good work in his community -- I'm not surprised by Drake or Gucci Mane. Only focus on your craft, because everything else is a waste. If you can't focus on your craft and be happy, then, what are you doing it for?"
